Campus Description: The Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center, a National Historic Landmark and research center, is owned and operated by the Stony Brook Foundation.The former home and studio of Abstract Expressionist painters Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner,located in the hamlet of Springs, in the Town of East Hampton, isopen to the public from May - October, and year-round for school and group tours and researchers. The Study Center, comprising an art reference library and archival collections, is located on Stony Brook's Southampton campus and is open by appointment year-round.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree. Experience in an administrative, educational or curatorial position. Microsoft Word, Excel, Photoshop and mail merge skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Art, Fine Art, Art History or Museum Studies. Additional years of experience in an administrative, educational or curatorial position. Working knowledge of PastPerfect software. Prior experience in a university setting.

Brief Description of Duties: The Assistant to the Director will assist the Director of the Pollock-Krasner House. The selected candidate:
  • Schedules and coordinates individual visits, group tours and school programs: the Assistant to the Director handles bookings, coordinates with teachers, camp counselors and tour operators, prepares and sends written instructions for group tours, and conducts tours when required.
  • Responsible for operation of the Museum store: the Assistant to the Director administers all aspects of the store operation, including ordering and pricing stock, initiating special orders of custom merchandise (mouse pads, magnets, cards and other Pollock-Krasner House items), processing receipts, and conducting an annual inventory.
  • Financial Management: the Assistant to the Director handles all transactions, including memberships, gifts, grants, sales and commissions, and processes all payments for goods, services and utilities, coordinating with the Stony Brook Foundation business office
  • Docent tour guide service and special events: the Assistant to the Director recruits, trains, schedules and supervises a corps of approximately 15 volunteer tour guides (docents), schedules volunteers to assist at lectures, films and special events, and plans and implements the annual volunteer appreciation day.
  • Membership management: the Assistant to the Director processes memberships, generates acknowledgments in PastPerfect, and provides donor lists in various formats for the annual newsletter and membership renewal drive.
  • Care of historic site and collections: the Assistant to the Director monitors the condition of the buildings and grounds, and schedules and supervises routine maintenance.
  • Supervision of student interns and part-time employees: in consultation with Human Resources, the Assistant to the Director recruits and trains a summer museum aide (a part-time employee) and oversees intern projects such as data entry, cataloging and research.
  • Collection cataloging and Study Center research: in consultation with the Director, the Assistant to the Director processes gifts to the permanent collection, creates and maintains catalogue entries in the PastPerfect data system, and handles requests for Study Center access.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.

Special Notes: This is a full time appointment, Monday through Friday, in November-April,Tuesday through Saturdayin May - October,9:30 a.m. to 5:30p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Occasional Night and weekend work is required. This position is located at the Pollock-Krasner House in East Hampton. Occasional travel to Stony Brook West Campus and Southampton campus.

The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.
