Job Description Summary/Essential Duties:

Position at Brookhaven College in the Police department.

An entry-level position responsible for receiving routine and emergency calls from a variety of campus sources (district phones, pay phones, call boxes, etc.) and dispatches those calls to appropriate campus police officer and/or off-campus emergency response agencies. Responsible for maintaining contact with on-duty police officers. Performs a variety of routine clerical duties in maintaining official records of a dispatch center. Monitors telephone, radios, emergency call boxes, and alarms and dispatches appropriate police officers, response teams, and emergency equipment. Inputs, retrieves, and verifies various computerized information. Broadcasts routine radio check to on-duty police officer. Receives and processes requests from on-duty police officers for traffic violation checks, warrant checks, vehicle registrations and drivers license checks, Federal and State wanted persons, missing children checks, missing persons, and stolen properties, via an on-line connection with the FBI National Crime Information Center and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). Responsible for daily maintenance of all routine and emergency traffic routed through the centralized police communications center; and maintains the daily on-call personnel records. Responsible for relaying daily emergency-related information such as street closings, power outages, campus closing, etc. Performs related duties as assigned.

Graduation from high school or equivalent, PLUS forty (40) hours of training in operation of Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) desired but not required for initial hire. As a condition of continued employment, successful completion of a forty (40) hour State mandated TLETS training course must be completed within the first year of employment. Additional TLETS training may be required as job progresses. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to use computer and related software programs to support clerical and technical functions of the position. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to function in stressful circumstances. Oral and written communication skills to effectively deal with individuals from diverse backgrounds. The ability to provide quality customer service. *Will be subject to a criminal background check.*
