Library Technical Assistant I

Duties and Responsibilities This position serves both Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College. Provides support for the Cataloging Librarian by searching online databases for MARC records to download into the library's Millennium database. Performs copy cataloging for library materials under the supervision of the Cataloging Librarian. Reclassifies the collection from the Dewey Decimal System to the Library of Congress System. Keeps database orderly by editing, correcting, deleting and otherwise modifying records to ensure that it accurately reflects library holdings. Works to insure that library materials are processed for use by the library's patrons in a timely manner. Repairs damaged library material and prepares it for the bindery if needed. Gathers statistical information for year-end reports. Provides assistance to library patrons as necessary.

Minimum Required Education Job requires broad trade knowledge or specific technical or business knowledge received from a formal registered apprentice or vocational training program or obtained through an associate's degree of over 18 months and up to 3 years beyond high school.

Required Licenses and/or Certifications

Type and Amount of Experience Needed No experience or up to six months of experience; however, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience is acceptable which provides an applicant the listed knowledge, skills, and abilities and the capability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications At least one year's experience with the Innovative Interfaces Millennium system and familiarity with Library operations.
