Required Qualifications: J.D. in Employment/Labor Law. Applications at the Assistant Counsel level require a minimum of two years of continuous and recent legal experience. Applications at the Associate Counsel level require a minimum of five years of continuous and recent legal experience. Litigation/arbitration background. Strong litigation and/or significant complex administrative hearing experience. Independent complex case management experience. Admitted to New York State Bar in good standing or eligibility for admission within one year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Legal experience working in labor and employment, higher education and/or government law. Background working with academic medical centers and/or universities.

Brief Description of Duties: The Attorney will, competently and comprehensively handle arbitrations, employment/labor issues, and other complex and emerging issues affecting this public research University. S/he will provide legal advice to senior managers and others at the University. The selected candidate will:
  • Handle all labor arbitrations, overflow DHR/EEOC complaints.
  • Other substantive areas of responsibility not related to employment law may also be assigned.
  • Other labor/employment matters as assigned.
  • Assist in writing and reviewing employment/discrimination policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Notes: This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Night and weekend work is required. Travel will be required for this position. **Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
