The multidisciplinary Social Science Department at LaGuardia Community College, CUNY is seeking a historian with teaching experience and a specialty in Latin American and Caribbean history for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will teach the Survey of Latin American and Caribbean History course as well as introductory courses in World History to 1500 and World History from 1500 to the Present. Faculty members are expected to support departmental, divisional, and college initiatives and to engage in professional development, research, and scholarly activities.

The successful candidate will perform teaching, research, and guidance duties in the specific area of expertise, and will also share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated engagement in scholarship, and the ability to work with a diverse student population.

Candidates must have Ph.D. in hand by August, 2014.
