GENERAL DUTIES

Performs highly-skilled laboratory functions and other technical duties in support of coursework. 

- Sets up, maintains, and organizes student laboratories

- Assists students with setting up experiments and other learning exercises, and with the use of  equipment and materials

- Maintains appropriate safety and hygiene standards

- Maintains required documentation related to laboratory activities

- Manages equipment and materials inventories.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

- Maintain studio and supervise all ceramic equipment including repairs of equipment and inventory of clay and glaze materials.
- Perform all firings, high and low, oxidation and reduction, and loading and unloading of kiln.
- Coordinate with Buildings & Grounds for maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and other physical aspects of studio maintenance.
- Oversee open studio for two afternoons and assist professors in their preparations.
- Enforce OSHA health and safety precautions in order to maintain a safe work environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience.  Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:
- A degree in ceramics with at least 2 years studio experience
- Experience working in an urban environment
- Ability to make clay and glazes and formulate same

COMPENSATION

$36,795 - $58,877; commensurate with qualifications and experience.
