Position Focus: Provides high-level support to Director of Yale University Press Legal Affairs; ensures that all publishing contracts for Yale University Press and Yale University Press London are negotiated, drafted and managed efficiently and accurately and in accord with policies and best practices of Yale University Press and the University; establishes, organizes and manages contracts files and legal files. Draft and review publishing contracts and agreements; communicate with and draft correspondence to authors and agents and negotiate contract terms; communicate status of contracts and terms; draft and manage boilerplate and compare and analyse proposed contract terms; facilitate advance checks and receive/respond to royalty questions; supervise student workers supporting operations of the Press; administers contract terminations process and oversees cancellations; and communicate regularly with Press staff and related departments.

Principal Responsibilities
1. Performs legal, statistical, documentary, factual, and records research. 2. Identifies relevant judicial decisions, statutes, legal articles, codes and other pertinent material; reviews and monitors new and updated regulations. 3. Organizes, analyzes, cross-checks and validates information. 4. Drafts legal documents including contracts and legal agreements using templates. 5. Checks legal forms and documents for accuracy. 6. Maintains law library. 7. Co-ordinates law office activities such as subpoena response, diligence production/review. 8. Locates and communicates with witnesses. 9. Interacts with clients, counterparties and other University departments. Summarizes agreements, documents, depositions, interrogatories, and testimony. 10. Attends real estate closings, depositions, court or administrative hearings and trials with the attorney. 11. Authors and signs correspondence that do not contain independent legal opinions or legal advice. 12. Maintains reference/client files, organizes and tracks case and governmental files. 13. May perform other duties as assigned.Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1: Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proofreading skills.

Required Skill/Ability 2: Strong academic credentials, a working knowledge of contracts and excellent drafting and analytical skills, including ability to compare and analyze documents.

Required Skill/Ability 3: Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills are essential; must demonstrate attention to detail. Competence as a paralegal

Required Skill/Ability 4: Ability to work under high volume on deadline and to work independently.

Required Skill/Ability 5: High level of computer literacy and know-how, including MS Office suite is required.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Two years experience in publishing contracts department or at a literary agency or minimum of two years of wide-ranging administrative experience, including drafting and managing a high volume of contracts and documents.
