The University of the Pacific Library is seeking a Special Collections Librarian and/or Archivist to join the University Library faculty and staff in providing leadership and management oversight for special collections, archives, and digital initiatives in order to further the educational and scholarly mission and goals of the University Library and University. The University Library emphasizes opportunities for undergraduate research within Special Collections. This position includes the duties of University Archivist and liaison/subject selector for History. This is a 12-month, non-tenure track faculty position. RESPONSIBILITIES • Manages day-to-day operations and facilities of Holt-Atherton Special Collections. • Develops and promotes the use of the manuscript, archival and rare book collections. • Plans and manages born-digital preservation and digitization projects. • Provides reference services and instruction. • Supervises 2 FTE staff, including Public Services Librarian and Special Collections Assistant • Initiates and manages outreach and development activities (e.g., exhibitions, publications, grant proposals, donor and public presentations, etc.). • Cultivates relationships with teaching faculty, other university offices, visiting scholars, alumni, and the public. • Serves as a member of the Library’s management team, contributing to strategic planning efforts, program development, and assessment in support of the University Library’s mission. • Works effectively and collaboratively in the development and delivery of services in a technology driven, dynamic and diverse environment. • Collaborates with other campus units to represent the Library and achieve university-wide goals. • Collaborates and actively participates in local, regional, national, or international organizations regarding related issues. • Serves on/participates in University and Library committees, task forces, and teams as appropriate. • Engages in scholarly/creative/professional activity as appropriate. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science, required • Five (5) to seven (7) years professional experience and knowledge of best practices in special collections, archives or equivalent environments ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS • Demonstrated ability to manage manuscript, rare book, and archival collections including knowledge of preservation techniques • Technological knowledge for the creation and management of digital assets and initiatives • Demonstrated experience leadership, decision-making, budget management, and supervision of librarians and staff • In-depth subject knowledge to support the use of collections • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Second master’s degree or earned PhD in history or related subject discipline • Certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS Candidates will be required to upload the following documents to the online form where indicated: • Cover Letter/Letter of Application addressing the qualifications for this position • Curriculum Vitae Also required to provide contact information where indicated on the online form for 3 professional references.
