Senior Database Administration Manager

With our nationally recognized virtualization stack and our private cloud, we're comfortable with remote working and strive for a healthy work/life balance. *What you will do:* This is a full-time, university staff position with significant oversight of Housing & Dining Services' (HDS) database infrastructure and services. Using available resources and independent judgment, the DBA manager coordinates the strategic direction and manages technical implementation for the department's database initiatives. Lead administrator and supervisor of the database group. The DBA manager is responsible for formulating and solving problems, improving service delivery, uptime, and continuous evaluation of systems recommending changes for cost-effectiveness and greater productivity. Additionally, the position works collaboratively with other team members, utilizing programming and database management skills to solve business needs. --- *What we can offer:* The anticipated salary for this position is $85,000. Minimum Qualifications: *What you have to have:* * Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience managing or developing with MS SQL Server * Substitution: Professional experience with database related technology may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. * Experience with SSIS, SSRS, and managing Windows Server 2008 or newer * Experience writing T-SQL, Stored Procedures, and Functions * Experience as a supervisor or group leader * Experience fulfilling user requirements * Excellent written and oral communication skills
Required Competencies/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: *What you will need:* * Diligence in performance tuning, uptime monitoring and backup management. Respond appropriately as needed to database and related system outages. * Determine technical problems over the phone or in person and use independent judgment and professional principles to create a best-fit solution. Analyze technical systems and resolve, replace, and reset systems based on independent judgments, procedures, and practices. * Knowledge and skill with managing a service with high uptime expectation. Analyze and maintain code and systems to ensure efficient, stable database solutions. * Able to deliver new features, introducing new technologies as needed, and accommodate growth and scaling needs over time. * Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to varying technological environments. * Actively participates in face-to-face communication with HIT and department administrators, staff, students, other personnel, hardware/software vendors, technical support staff, and the university community in general. * Excellent communication and training skills to be able to present, train, and convey technical information simply and understandably to department staff and administrators. * To be able to periodically work under stressful and chaotic circumstances.
Desired Qualifications: *What we'd like you to have:* * Bachelor's degree, or higher, in technology or a related field * Experience with SQL 2012, SSAS or Windows 2012 * Deployed .NET code or used web services code (SOAP, REST, etc.) in a production environment * Experience interfacing with vendors and consultants, especially with managing projects and software * Knowledge of distributed source control management systems like git or mercurial
