Faculty Position

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Informatics, Bio-statistics, or Computer Science with a focus on data analysis and mining, or an equivalent area with strong experience in clinical informatics and clinical operations. Significant research or enterprise experience in data analytics and information management. Excellent computer programming and database skills including C/C++, Java, SQL, Hadoop/MapReduce and experience with scripting/programming of automation tasks for data access and data processing. Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent problem solving skills. Ability to multi task and work independently. Candidates should be analytical thinkers with excellent working knowledge of clinical data systems and clinical data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications: A strong track record of working with real world data analytics problems in clinical settings. Experience with reporting tools, SAS, R, Hadoop/MapReduce, database creation, and query development experience.

Responsibilities & Requirements: The successful candidate will serve as the Chief of Data Analytics and will design and carry out advanced analytics of combined patient, operational and financial data for clinical, research and administrative purposes and will contribute to teaching and service activities in the department. The successful candidate is expected to work with multi-disciplinary teams in collaborative projects. The primary responsibilities are:

  • Spearhead needs assessment and use case development to characterize opportunities for data analytics to contribute to Stony Brook's clinical mission, operational efficiency and financial strength.
  • Evaluate, adapt, develop and deploy algorithms needed to carry out integrated clinical/operational/financial data analyses.
  • Spearhead development of data analytics hardware and software environment, coordinate multi-disciplinary data analytics team drawn from IS, Biomedical Informatics and Stony Brook Medicine.
  • Conduct applied research on novel methods for information extraction, representation and analysis targeted at interpretation of clinical, operational and financial data. Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals and conferences and build a research portfolio on advanced data analytics.

Special Notes: This is a non-tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
