California State University Dominguez Hills was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise The California State University System. CSU Dominguez Hills is an urban, comprehensive public university that serves a culturally rich, diverse student body of approximately 14,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Located on a 346-acre site in the South Bay portion of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, CSU Dominguez Hills has a highly pluralistic student body, which includes a significant number of non-traditional, working adult students as well as approximately 2,000 students enrolled in distance learning programs statewide. The University, with its five Academic Colleges, has more than 300 full-time faculty members and is situated in an area characterized by an extraordinary heterogeneity of people, and an extensive array of high technology industries and professional services.
Conditions of Employment:
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate is required to complete a background check prior to assuming this position.
This is a full-time management (MPP) position. MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.
This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
Department: Career Center
The Career Center empowers students and alumni to make informed career and educational decisions through the counseling, career, and employment services they provide. It assists students in learning processes or developing skills that will facilitate the attainment of educational, career and personal goals. The staff accomplishes this mission by (1) providing students and alumni with services and programs to facilitate lifelong career development (2) collaborating with university faculty and staff to prepare and connect students to their future careers, (3) providing psychological counseling services and mentorship programs, and (4) forging strong relationships with employers throughout Southern California and the United States. It also assists employers in meeting their college relations and staffing goals with regard to hiring college students and graduates.
Major Job Duties:
Under the administrative direction of the Associate Vice President of Student Success, The Director has the primary responsibility for the administration, organization and direction of the Career Center programs and services: career development, career planning, internship development, counseling, and employment services. Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge and comprehensive understanding of career development, job search strategies, job market trends, employer relations, contemporary recruitment methodologies, and trends in career services.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, included demonstrated ability to make effective oral presentations, facilitate an open exchange of ideas, and write clear and concise reports.
- Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to make connections and work creatively and effectively with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employers
- Successful experience supervising and evaluation employees, resolving conflicts, and encouraging a diverse staff to work well together, particularly in a collective bargaining environment.
- Experience and commitment to working with students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Master's Degree in Student Development, Career Counseling, Higher Education, or a related field plus five years of increasingly responsible experience in a career center at a four-year college or university.
Five years of successful and progressively responsible administrative experience in career services. Strong strategic management skills, excellent business sense, and experience in planning and controlling a budget with multiple revenue sources
Experience using information technology to manage services, assess student learning outcomes, communicate with constituents, and promote continuous quality improvement.
Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $3,635 - $11,624 per month.
