GENERAL DUTIES

Provides career counseling and assessment and provides comprehensive career services programs.

- Provides employment and career counseling to students; may provide services to alumni

- Administers and interprets career and vocational assessment instruments

- Prepares and facilities workshops on career development topics such as job search strategies, resume and cover letter preparation, and interviewing techniques

- Develops and maintains relationships with employers that can lead to recruitment and hiring at the campus

- Assists with planning and presenting career fairs, speakers, employer visits, and other events

- Collaborates with faculty and student support service professions to offer specialized programs and activities

- Trains and supervises interns and office staff

- Performs other duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Reporting to the Director of the Professional Development Institute (PDI), the Career Coach will be responsible for assisting students in identifying and realizing career goals through personal consultation.  The selected individual will provide career counseling and coaching to students.

In addition to duties above, this position will:
- Provide career coaching.
- Work specifically with the new GPS initiative in collaboration with Office of Student Life & Leadership Development.
- Provide early outreach to students and assist in the development of students' career plans and a comprehensive Career Portfolio that highlights students' career interest, skills, and competencies, samples of work, experiences, achievements, and career goals.
- Collaborate with the Center's team members to connect students with career exploration activities, workshops, and training opportunities.
- Communicate with students regularly to update on progress and various initiatives.
- Coordinate interest inventories and skills assessments to assist students in making informed career decisions as well as provide information on careers, career pathways, and educational requirements
- Work with the Manager of Internships & Experiential Learning to provide opportunities for internships, mentoring, visits to business and industry, and other career awareness opportunities.
- Collect, organize, and analyze information about individuals through reported data, assessments, interviews, and professional sources to appraise their interests, strengths, abilities, values, and personality characteristics for educational and career development planning.
- Maintain appropriate comprehensive student records and assist in identifying student needs; assist with design and implementation of innovative programs, services, and resources to address those needs.
- Assist in the identification and organization of career information that is accessible to students and alumni through a variety of media (i.e. Internet web sites and social media) as they explore and make career decisions.
- Conduct orientation and workshop sessions to provide students with information and follow up sessions and communications with students.
- Assist in policy development and strategic planning/special projects to improve operations of the unit.
- Observe Professional Development Workshops on all topics.
- Participate in planning, promoting, and managing events such as Career Fairs; research potential speakers for career panels.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates will have previous experience and proven effectiveness in coaching and developing others; ability to be trained and interpret standardized career interest inventories; effectively counsel and coach students from all backgrounds, cultures, and experience levels; ability to build and develop mutually beneficial relationships; excellent verbal communications, interpersonal, and presentation skills; solid writing skills; strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to maintain confidentiality of career advising documentation; and ability to manage databases and utilize career management systems.

The ideal candidate will have four years of experience working with students in an academic career center, and other advising experience that demonstrates probability of success working with college students. Master's degree is preferred.

In addition, the ideal candidate will:
- Have good communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in delivery of group presentations, individual work with undergraduates, graduate students and alumni, development of print resources and preparation of reports
- Have excellent organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and autonomously
- Be able to work well with all levels of staff and students at the college
- Have computer competency and knowledgeable of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with ability to adapt to and maintain a variety of technical reporting systems

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
