The Florida State University Libraries seeks an innovative, energetic Science Librarian to work as part of a team to transform library support of the sciences at FSU.

The Science Librarian has responsibility for supporting research, enabling access to resources and services, as well as providing other services that support Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, and similar fields. The Science Librarian will be based in the Dirac Science Library and will report to the Head of Dirac.

This position is ideal for someone looking to take initiative in a dynamic environment to shape the future of science librarianship. The Dirac Science Library and this position offers support to FSU's academic departments, and also serves as the primary library support to the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, a world-class research facility. This dual support role presents the science librarian position with abundant collaboration and growth opportunities.

Anticipated Salary Range
Minimum $42,000. Offer commensurate with education and qualification

Qualifications
MLS from an ALA-accredited program.
Degree in a science discipline or significant library experience supporting STEM areas.
Ability to provide advanced research assistance in assigned areas.
Expertise in assigned subjects sufficient to assess the curricular and research needs of the University in those areas and expertise to provide access to meet those needs.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with faculty, students, library staff and with people of diverse backgrounds.
Flexibility in adapting to evolving departmental and organizational priorities and technological environments.

Preferred
Advanced degree in a science discipline.
Knowledge of or experience with e-science, data management, and scholarly communications.
Record of scholarly publications and/or presentations

Responsibilities
Works with the Head of Dirac to develop innovative new services and initiatives to support the STEM population.
Focuses on providing access to resources and services that meet evidence-based STEM faculty and student needs.
Works as part of a team providing services at the Dirac Science Library.
Anticipates and facilitates changes in and new uses of resources as scholarly communication evolves.
Collaborates with Technology and Digital Scholarship, the Office of Research, and other parts of the university in developing strategies to support data management in the sciences.
Incorporates emerging information technologies and trends in scholarly communication into outreach efforts.
Provides the full range of subject-specific library services to assigned academic department(s), including collection management, consultation, instruction, assessment, and reference.
Collaborates with science faculty in grant related activities.
Serves on Library and/or University committees, contributes to library initiatives, and provides leadership for specific projects.
Contributes to state, regional, and national committees and participates in research, publication, and other professional and scholarly activities.
Flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Faculty Information
This is a full-time, 12-month non-tenured faculty appointment. Benefits include 22 days vacation, 13 days sick leave, group medical, dental, and life insurance, an optional retirement program or state retirement, and no state or local income tax. With supervisor*s approval, may qualify for University tuition scholarship for up to six credit hours each semester.
