Garden City, New York
As Adelphi University celebrates its 118th year of providing students with an outstanding education, the Board of Trustees announces its search for Adelphi’s 10th president.
Adelphi is a modern university located 30 minutes from New York City with excellent and highly relevant programs that enable students to prepare for lives of engaged citizenship and professional careers. Through its schools and programs—The College of Arts and Sciences, Gordon F. Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies, Honors College, Ruth S. Ammon School of Education, University College, Robert B. Willumstad School of Business, College of Nursing and Public Health, and School of Social Work—this co-educational university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as professional and educational programs for adults. Adelphi currently enrolls nearly 8,000 students from 41 states and 60 foreign countries. With its main campus in Garden City (Long Island) and centers in Manhattan, Hauppauge, and Poughkeepsie, the University maintains a commitment to the liberal arts in tandem with rigorous professional preparation.
Adelphi has excelled in recent years and is arguably at the strongest point in its history. In less than 15 years, the endowment has tripled, undergraduate enrollment has grown by 63 percent, and graduation rates have climbed to become the highest among comprehensive private colleges on Long Island. Annual giving by undergraduate alumni continues to grow. The addition and renovation of more than 500,000 square-feet of state-of-the art facilities already have transformed the Garden City Campus, and the much-anticipated 100,000 square-foot Nexus Building and Welcome Center will open in 2015 to the benefit of students, faculty, and alumni. It will house the College of Nursing and Public Health, the Center for Health Innovation, academic support services, and administrative offices including Admissions and Alumni Relations.
Adelphi seeks a bold, innovative leader who will engage effectively with all its constituencies to capitalize on recent momentum and create and implement an inspiring vision for the University’s future. The next President will deeply value and articulate the benefits of combining the liberal arts and professional education, promote the University’s strengths in the region and beyond, integrate technology and education, continue to strengthen the excellence of the undergraduate and graduate programs, and secure the resources to allow the University to achieve ever-higher levels of excellence.
The review of credentials will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. For best consideration, please submit materials by July 15, 2014. Nominations, inquiries, and expressions of interest should be forwarded in confidence to:
