Training Assists the Associate Director in teaching the RA class. Revises and updates staff training manuals including CD, RAs and desk staff. Assists in the development and instruction of both the Leadership Class and those workshops conducted for all staff prior to the beginning of the academic year. Assists with the following: living learning programs, assessment, summer conference programs, social and recognition programs for all departmental staff, academic liaison and partnerships, Student Conduct Board and the Residence Hall Association and National Residence Hall Honorary. Policy Enforcement In cooperation with the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities Office, assists in the administration of the university’s judicial process for students living in residence halls. Enforces and supports all university and departmental policies and regulations. Assists in policy formulation for Residential Life. Maintains daily office hours and projects a high degree of visibility and availability to all staff members. Facilities Tour buildings and grounds on a regular basis to identify facility needs and areas for Improvement. Solicit building improvement ideas from staff and residents. Develop a working relationship with the hall housekeepers and facilities staff to establish and maintain on-going programs of hall maintenance, cleaning and refurbishment. Administrative Insures programs are provided for resident students that foster personal wellness and community development. Directs all functions of the hall’s assignment process and maintains accurate room occupancy data for the hall. Serves on assigned departmental committees and represents Residential Life on campus-wide committees. Administers the office supply, equipment, and programmatic budgets for the hall. Investigates and responds to concerns and complaints of students, parents, university staff members and others in a manner that provides accurate information and fosters good public relations. Participates in the administration of the room/hall room selection process. Processes student requests for termination of their housing contract. Assists with the coordination of living learning programs in the hall. Represents the department at professional conferences. Performs duties related to summer conference housing or the freshmen orientation program during the summer months. Performs other duties assigned by the central housing administration staff. Accountability: The Assistant Director is supervised by the Associate Director of Residential Life. Qualifications: A Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or related field and 5 – 7 years of full-time professional experience in residence life. Experience with technology that enhances housing and residential life operations (i.e. Residential Management System, Simplicity Advocate, WEAVEonline, Schooldude, and Banner). Understanding of student development theory into professional practice. Experience with assessment and supervising professional staff. Understanding of issues of diversity and social justice; demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in promoting respect and appreciation for diversity and pluralism among students and staff.
