Department:              Office of Community Services and Special Programs


Appointment:            12-Month, Administrative


Reports To:              Dean of Community Services and Special Programs                                                


General Functions:

The Assistant Dean of Community Services is responsible to the Dean of Community Services and Special Programs and assists the Dean of Community Services and Special Programs with the administration and operation of the department with special and specific responsibilities in the management of the noncredit programs.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate the following programs:


High School Equivalency Program

Hire, supervise and evaluate High School Equivalency instructors and staff

Write and monitor HSE curriculum; counsel students and parents

Monitor expenses and income

Responsible for program data and student tracking

Conduct professional development workshops for HSE instructors

Market HSE program in the community

Submit proposals for state aided courses

Develop new HSE sites based on community need

Oversee tracking of HSE students who subsequently attend DCC credit classes


English as a second Language – ESL:

Supervise ESL coordinator

Interview and hire ESL staff; monitor ESL curriculum

Develop new ESL sites based on community need


Computer Courses:

Develop and schedule noncredit computer courses

Develop computer academies for Dutchess County youth

Hire, supervise and evaluate all noncredit computer instructors

Assist in the marketing of all noncredit computer courses

Assist in the development of computer related training proposals


  • Oversee summer youth academies with other Assistant Dean
  • Advise noncredit students as required
  • Develop, write and manage grants for special programs
  • Act as liaison to relevant community groups and other College departments
  • Serve on appropriate community based boards and committees
  • Participate in departmental, divisional, and institutional assessment activities as required
  • Other programs and duties as assigned




  • Master's degree required in a related field
  • Two (2) year's administrative and teaching experience required
  • Experience providing leadership for diverse populations
  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationships with supervising personnel, coworkers, all college employees and the Public
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects
  • A commitment to educating students and the role of the community college
