About The Unit: The University of Chicago's Provost Office ensures the robust health of the academic values of intellectual inquiry and integrity. On a daily basis, the Provost is responsible for planning, implementing, and supporting the academic programs of the institution.

Unit Job Summary: The Senior Associate Provost reports to and works closely with the provost and other staff in managing a variety of highly critical strategic initiatives for a high profile and complex Office that is responsible for the planning, implementation, and administration of the current and planned academic programs of the institution as well as strategic initiatives that complement and extend existing efforts. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Strategy: The Senior Associate Provost will oversee existing and future strategic initiative planning that involve multiple academic and administrative units and advance the University's ambitious agenda. The Senior Associate Provost will ensure that the University's planning for new and renovated facilities as well as a broad range of current and new academic initiatives is well coordinated and its priorities clearly defined and communicated. Financial Assessment: The Senior Associate Provost partners with the Provost, Associate Provost and University Budget Director, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and members of the executive team to evaluate the financial implications of various strategic initiatives and to identify specific areas in need of attention. Financial models are developed in alignment with strategic planning and provide insight into resource requirements. The role of the Senior Associate Provost will be to ensure strategic initiatives are sustainable in the context of the University's academic enterprise. Execution: Work closely with colleagues across campus, the Senior Associate Provost will work with leaders and project teams across the University to ensure that strategic initiatives are successfully implemented. This includes identifying and developing the necessary efforts and processes to realize the strategic initiatives on time and on budget, thereby ensuring effectively coordinated implementation and successful realization of the efforts. The Senior Associate Provost will identify and implement corrective actions to be taken when problems or risks are identified.

Unit Education: Master's degree required Advanced degree preferred.

Unit Experience: A minimum of seven years of relevant experience with significantly increasing academic administrative responsibilities in higher education environments required. Supervisory experience preferred.

Ability to navigate a complex and nuanced academic environment and anticipate the needs of the executive team required; knowledge of current trends in academia required; familiarity with national laboratories preferred; knowledge of this University's organization, policies, and procedures preferred. Flexibility, ingenuity, and an ability to manage through organizational change required. Ability to collaborate well and supportively, with strong interpersonal skills, to build trust and cultivate good working relationships with varied and diverse constituencies required. Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative required, ability to work as part of a team, pay attention to detail, maintain organizational order, possess creativity, be flexible, work on multiple projects simultaneously and set priorities required.
