Position Summary: Extended Campus invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, Instructional Design Specialist position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
The Instructional Design Specialist is a professional faculty member who reports to the Director of Course Development and Training (CDT) within OSU Extended Campus.
The person in this position provides knowledge and creativity in enhancing the development and design of online courses; hands-on instructional design support for faculty developing online courses and interactive learning modules; consulting support to maintain a future-oriented vision for development; and develops and facilitates trainings for faculty related to online course design and facilitation.
Position Duties: 60% - Instructional Design:
Provides ongoing instructional design and development of online course materials that will enhance the effectiveness of Ecampus courses.
Provides ongoing instructional design and development of open education resources that will support the university's land grant mission.
Consults with faculty on optimal online design of curriculum and instruction and effective uses of multimedia. Recommends procedures and solutions for effective online learning and instruction.
Coordinates with Ecampus multimedia developers to assure that media projects developed for online courses are in alignment with course learning outcomes and that open education media projects are developed for the intended audience and purpose.
Works with faculty to ensure timely completion and delivery of online instructional design projects.
Works with faculty to continually improve the quality of online courses through a variety of quality improvement initiatives, including Quality Matters.
30% - Research and Training:
Performs innovative and creative work and presents lessons learned with faculty on campus (seminars/person) and/or colleagues at professional meetings. As technology and software development products advance, explores and makes recommendations for multimedia software for faculty.
Contributes to the development of training materials designed to help faculty develop and facilitate high quality online courses.
Contributes to the facilitation of faculty and staff trainings.
10% - Professional Development and Service:
Attends professional workshops and meetings, sharing knowledge and networking with other online instructional design professionals. Also enhances expertise by reading appropriate professional journals and trade publications. Provides service to OSU and the land grant system by working on departmental, division, university, regional and national committees and projects.

Minimum/Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in adult education, instructional technology, curriculum design, or related field.
Experience using a course management system, such as Blackboard, Canvas, WebCT, Moodle, et cetera.
Strong interpersonal, oral and written presentation skills.
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Ability to work in and lead teams.
Proven record as a self-starter, flexibility to adapt to an ever-changing and fast-paced environment.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications: Master's in adult education, instructional technology, curriculum design, or related field.
Experience working in higher education, especially in developing or teaching online courses.
Significant experience in online course development and instructional design.
Familiarity with multimedia, Web 2.0 tools, social learning tools, and web design technology.
Understanding of adult learning theory.
Project management skills.
