GENERAL DUTIES

Administers career development programs and services in a College or Unit.

- Assists in developing and implementing career planning programs and services.

- Takes a lead role in a portfolio of ongoing programs, such as orientation or workshop programs

- May supervise a unit or program, hiring, training, and managing staff

- Consults with faculty, staff, administrators, and employers regarding students' career development needs

- Assists in collection, tabulation and analysis of outcomes data for students and other stakeholders, as well as research of employment and market trends

- Assists in policy development and strategic planning/special projects.

- Serves as a liaison to student groups, clubs, and athletic organizations.

- Represents career office on college committees, conferences, and to the College community at large

- Conducts outreach programming, orienting employers and other constituents to services

-Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Reporting to the Director of Professional Student Development, the Internships and Experiential Learning Specialist will serve as primary internship advisor to undergraduate and graduate students and as an active member of the Experiential Education Unit with the Professional Student Development Institute.

- Guide students on issues related to career development and internships, including resume writing, cover letter preparation, and internship search strategies.
- Cultivate employer relationships for the Experiential Education Unit in order to increase their engagement through internship and externship opportunities for students, on campus interviewing, job and internship fairs, information sessions, industry events, panel discussions, and part-time and full-time job opportunities.
- Plan, implement, and host information sessions, panel discussions, and seminars on relevant subjects with guest speakers.
- Develop and deliver focused workshops to enhance students soft skills.
- Guide students through mock interviews with constructive feedback.
- Oversee and manage special introductory workshops related to 311 and MTA internships.
- Maintain campus wide internship postings on College Central.
- Act as liaison to academic departments to coordinate and participate in collaborative programs.
- Assist with Professional Student Development campus wide events such as fall and spring fairs and graduate school fairs.
- Maintain a database and prepare reports on each student.
- Develop and expand knowledge of regional employers and workforce trends.
- Identify and pursue areas for internship development.
- Actively participate with external professional associations and groups to ensure that the Institute remains current in best practices and information related to college career services
- Assist with the expansion of new internship and externship opportunities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

City College experience highly preferred.  Experience in a higher education setting, student career services, and a consistent record of accomplishment preferred.  Experience in leading and advising students in professional/career development planning required.  Master's Degree in a relevant discipline is highly preferred.

COMPENSATION

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
