Description


Develop, analyze, and conduct complex financial analyses to assess the viability of long range strategic and financial plans and programs; integrate generally accepted financial and accounting principles, theories, and concepts to develop forecasted income statements, assess balance sheets and cash flow impacts, and monitor results from program and project implementation.

Key Functions and Expected Performances:
  1. Develop long range projections to model the financial impact of proposed programs and projects; support and reinforce efforts of faculty and staff to sustain results from program and project implementation.

    2. using a comprehensive knowledge of the role and goals of Vanderbilt departments, with an understanding of academic and healthcare accounting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), applicable regulations, and University policies and procedures

  2. Investigate and analyze detailed accounting system transactions in support of programs and projects; utilize data in the development of forecasted income statements and assess balance sheets and cash flow impacts, and monitor results from program and project implementation.
    1. using a comprehensive understanding of academic and healthcare accounting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, appropriate regulations, and University policies and procedures
  3. Design, develop, and modify computerized financial forecasting models and simulations for specific programs; establish, through research, required databases or accumulate and analyze data from existing databases to perform the appropriate computations and analyses.
    1. using an advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database applications
    2. using a broad knowledge of Vanderbilt's computer and mainframe systems
  4. Present frequent financial, statistical, and operational reports including analysis of progress toward program/project goals. Analyze budget impact of implemented programs/projects. Provide input for long range financial projections of current and planned program/projects that have financial impact or implications on the University.

  5. Analyze, and report on the effects of proposed federal and state statutes and regulatory actions which may impact long range financial planning.
    1. using a comprehensive understanding of the Institutional mission and vision and the roles and goals of the business units within the Medical Center
  6. Survey industry data to analyze future trends and indicators in related areas of interest; review data periodically to analyze trends affecting budget needs and report findings.

    3. using a broad knowledge of healthcare operations
  7. Analyze, accumulate, and review data for financial reports. Conduct literature searches and present synopses on relevant topics for administration.

Basic Qualifications


Job requires Masters and 3 years of experience or the equivalent.
