Political Science Instructor
Include teaching sections of American Government, including information on California state and local politics; instruct other lower level Political Science courses; develop curriculum including student learning outcomes and program review; work with campus and community organizations; participate in department, division, and college committees; and otherwise fulfilling the required responsibilities of instructional staff. Weekend classes may occasionally be required. Instructional duties may include Reedley, Madera, and Oakhurst.
Include an earned master’s degree in political science, government, or international relations; OR bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND master’s degree in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, and ethnic studies, J.D., or LL.B.; OR a valid California Community College Credential; OR the equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency); AND demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Extent of post-secondary level teaching experience; experience instructing Political Science/American Government; teaching large-group formats (75 or more students); course work in American political institutions and processes; course work in International Relations and/or Comparative Politics; experience in related non-teaching work; demonstrated teaching ability; potential contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and, extent of experience with web-based online learning and classroom technology including webcasting, podcasting, and personal response systems.
Conditions of Employment: 177 duty days per year.
Salary and Benefits:
Starting salary is $51,992 – $78,276 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $1,945 is available. In addition, the district offers an attractive fringe benefit package including health, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance for employees. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS).

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents, a selection advisory committee will determine the candidates that meet the highest degree of desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview.
The selection advisory committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction and College President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
