Position Summary: Works in a team environment with other programmers and bioinformatics specialists in expanding RDP, a widely used bioinformatics resource, through development of new tools in Java, C++, and Python; assists in administration of a rack of Linux Servers and a small workgroup of Mac Workstations; works with staff to document internal and external procedures.

Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years of college, technical, vocational or business school such as an associate's degree in computer technology or information systems, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed OR a bachelor's degree in computer technology or information systems, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; up to six months of related work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Typing Requirements (wpm):

Desired Qualifications: Desire and ability to improve skills; ability to work both in a team environment and in a self-directed manner; demonstrable experience in object-oriented software development using C++, Java, Python, or related languages; some experience with server administration (Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Macintosh OS X) preferred; degree in computer science or related discipline a plus.
