Position Summary/Purpose of Position: We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow within the Department of Sociology at the University of Maryland, College Park and affiliated with the Center for Research on Military Organization (CRMO, crmo.umd.edu). The CRMO serves to: conduct basic and applied research on military organization, military members, veterans and their families and coordinate such research across campus; train the next generation of military sociologists; facilitate communication among social scientists conducting research on the military; advise policy makers so that decisions can be informed by the most recent social science research. The post-doctoral fellow will contribute to ongoing new research efforts to understand the role of military service in shaping various socially valued outcomes over the lifecourse. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to spend about half of their time working independently and about half their time working together with one or more mentors from among our CRMO faculty on current and future projects in the CRMO. The postdoctoral fellow will take part in the grant-writing and publication process in relation to these projects and will be mentored and supported in developing his or her own program of research. Minimum Qualifications: Qualifications for this position include a Ph.D. in Sociology or related discipline, a strong foundation in quantitative methods and excellent writing and data analysis skills. Preferences: Preference will be given to scholars interested in pursuing a career in research on active duty military, veterans, or military or veteran families.
