Position Description Located in the International Student Services office and under the supervision of the Director of International Student Services, the International Student Advisor provides academic, visa-related, cultural adjustment, and other related advising and counseling services to degree-seeking and ESL international students. The position advises international students on academic requirements, university policies, and F-1 regulations with regards to the requirements and benefits related to F-1 visa status. The incumbent will utilize the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) for required reporting and processing of student documents and benefits. The position also coordinates and assists with the planning and delivery of events and special programs for international students and the international education community at the university. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of Department of State (DOS), and Department of Homeland Security regulations pertaining to international students and exchange visitors. Working knowledge of SEVIS reporting and processing. Ability to engage, support and encourage students from various cultural backgrounds. Working knowledge of international student advising processes. College or university academic advising experience. Ability to cultivate positive and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders; Students, staff, faculty, state and foreign government representatives and program sponsors. Excellent written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong attention to detail, multitasking, time management, and organizational skills including ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team member. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with diverse constituency groups including students, faculty, external providers, and community members. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. Strong computer skills desired. Knowledge of Web 2.0/Social Media skills. Prior experience living or working abroad preferred. Knowledge of NCAA and conference rules. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence." Education and Experience Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required. Master's degree is preferred. Ability to speak, read and write in at least 1 foreign language is preferred.
