The School for Graduate Studies seeks an experienced Instructional Technologist (State Title: Senior Staff Assistant) to support the use of technology to enhance learning. The Instructional Technologist will be responsible for developing pedagogical strategies and providing support to faculty in the selection and use of digital technologies in online, and hybrid courses. The selected incumbent will be a member of the rapidly evolving learning management and design team in the School for Graduate Studies and will interact with instructional designers and technologists across the college. Flexibility and willingness to pitch in and provide just-in-time support for technical issues are essential attributes. Responsibilities: • Collaborate with and support curriculum developers, faculty, and instructional designers to create technology-mediated learning experiences and to integrate a variety of graphics, audio, video, and interactive media; web communications software; and web 2.0 tools into learning environments. Use various audio/video equipment and technical skills to obtain professional quality results. • Provide front-line, just-in-time instructional technology support for faculty and staff with diverse backgrounds, perspectives and technical knowledge on the use of technology in teaching and learning. • Design and deliver workshops and training on a variety of online tools and media services; serve as subject matter expert for such content for others; reach out to faculty and staff with individualized approaches when needed; develop user documentation and asynchronous training resources. • Identify and organize web and multimedia resources for students and faculty and develop open educational resources for the School for Graduate Studies; assist faculty in developing reusable learning objects and integrating them into their courses. • Provide break/fix technical support to faculty and students at a distance who use Grad-specific technologies; and serve as ESC Help Desk liaison. • Engage in continuous investigation of emerging technologies that have potential to support learning and disseminate best practices in technology enhanced teaching and learning. Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: •Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years’ of professional experience working directly with college faculty in an instructional design and technology support capacity. •Extensive knowledge of current and emerging technologies used in instructional design, and knowledge of pedagogical issues related to online teaching and learning. •Demonstrated ability to design and develop learning materials and interactive learning experiences through the use of digital media (audio, video and web). •Demonstrated facility in assisting faculty members with the effective use of technology in traditional, web-enhanced, hybrid and online learning. •Demonstrated ability to effectively use a range of digital technology tools (web 2.0, learning managements systems, etc.) to support instruction, communication, and knowledge development. •Demonstrated computer competency including abilities with learning management systems, multi-media authoring tools, and web design across multiple platforms. •Well-developed project management skills, with ability to develop realistic development plans and meet deadlines, and to adapt and solve problems proactively and creatively. •Evidence of ability to form and maintain collaborative working relationships with faculty and staff, both locally and at a distance, and to work in a collaborative team based environment. •Demonstrated ability to develop effective training programs and material and to support faculty and staff with diverse skill sets. •Demonstrated ability to maintain currency with emerging technologies. •Demonstrated oral, written and interpersonal communications skills. Preferred Qualifications: •Master’s degree. •Experience in any of the following: applying Content Management Systems; systematic instructional design process for online learning environments, preferably for graduate-level courses; team-based projects; and working in a distributed organization; experience in compiling statistical reports and other metrics. •Knowledge of ADA Compliance guidelines and resources for the online educational environment strongly preferred. •Experience with Moodle or Moodlerooms Joule, Mahara or other ePortfolio platforms and programming languages, HTML, java-script, SQL a plus. Special Information: This position requires occasional evening and weekend hours, and occasional overnight travel within New York State. The individual is expected to stay current in the field and that may require interstate travel.
