Job Description: Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Dean for Research and Director, Florida Agricultural Experiment Station at the University of Florida. The Dean reports directly to the Senior Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources. The expected start date for this position is fall 2014. Duties and Responsibilities The Dean for Research and Director, Florida Agricultural Experiment Station: * Is administratively responsible to the Senior Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources within the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS). * Administers and provides statewide leadership for the diverse research programs in UF/IFAS spanning agriculture, natural resources, food, human and the life sciences. * Directs and administers the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station (FAES) including budget management and coordination with the state and federal agencies that fund FAES. * Works closely with the Dean of UF/IFAS Extension, the Dean for the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and the Dean for the College of Veterinary Medicine. * Serves as the programmatic leader for research and works with university administrators and faculty, state leaders in agricultural and natural resource industries, and governmental agencies to address problems and opportunities associated with Florida's unique environment, diverse food and agricultural systems, sensitive natural ecosystems, rapidly expanding population and the urban-rural interface. * Provides leadership for faculty and staff employment, placement, tenure and promotion. * Provides vision and dynamic leadership appropriate to the mission of a comprehensive research and land-grant institution, and is responsible for the administration of the Equal Employment Opportunity efforts. * Secures private endowments and increases extramural funding for research and graduate education.

Minimum Requirements: Demonstrated record of leadership with management and administrative skills, as well as a commitment to maintain and grow the national prominence of UF/IFAS research programs. Candidate must have earned doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in a field relevant to IFAS programs and be qualified for an appointment at the rank of professor in one of the IFAS departments. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the land-grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience at a land-grant university is highly desired. The preferred candidate will have administrative experience as a Chair, Director, or Assistant or Associate Dean.
