Job Description Summary:

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Educational Leadership starting Fall 2014.

This position is a tenure-track, 9-month appointment. The successful scholar-practitioner candidate will be expected to teach graduate courses in a Principal Certification program and collaboratively coordinate program processes. Candidates will be expected to fulfill service responsibilities to the department, division, and university, as well as advancing the Educational Leadership profession. Candidates will be expected to work in collaboration with other colleagues in the Department of Education and Administration, and community partners; develop and carry out a research agenda that addresses culturally diverse issues and concerns; and supervise students in field placements.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Doctorate in Educational Leadership or related field

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a campus principal in a public school setting

  • Effective written and oral communication skills

  • Active research agenda

  • Current Principal Certificate

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years urban school leadership experience

  • Experience as district superintendent

  • Experience in instructional leadership and organizational change

  • Certified or willing to become certified as a Trainer in Texas Instructional Leadership Development (ILD) and/or Professional Development Appraisal System (PDAS)

  • Familiarity with a Social Justice research framework, including research on language minority and bilingualism.

  • Experience in urban turn-around schools

  • Experience in data analysis and program evaluation

  • Higher education teaching experience

  • Online or hybrid teaching experience

Physical Demands:

Work is primarily sedentary. Sits comfortably to do the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, or lifting items weighing up to 15 pounds.
