Job Description: Responsible for providing students and alumni job placement coaching and development of valuable job placement techniques, strategies, and tools needed to become job search ready. Helps students develop employability skills used to launch a confident job search. Liaises with area employers to research current and potential job openings. Thoroughly understands Harper College programs of study and assists students in matching their skills with available jobs. Provides input and feedback to faculty and deans in applied degree areas as to current job trends and needed skills in the workplace. Builds relationships with career coordinators, department chairs, faculty, and deans and works collaboratively to help match students with current and future job opportunities. Advises students on how to complete applications for Harper's Work Study Program, other internal work opportunities, internships, externships and Co-op Work Experience opportunities. Provides outreach to alumni and advises them on job search techniques and provides placement assistance.

Duties of Position: Coaches students on employability skills requested by area employers. Provides current information students on the latest trends and tools used to be come job search ready in order to facilitate securing jobs. These include but are not limited to resume writing, interviewing techniques and tools, and the use of social media in their job search. May provide individual student assessment to better create a specific job search plan. Consults with career coordinators, department chairs, other faculty and deans in current job trends, salary levels, and educational requirements needed by employees. Develops and provides feedback events and opportunities to share with career coordinators, department chairs, other faculty and deans on information gathered from area employers such as current and potential employment needs, and satisfaction of the students/graduates placed in jobs. Works collaboratively with Job Placement Specialists who focus on area employers outside Harper College to identify and match qualified students for job openings. Assists in the development, coordination and implementation of sector-based or career-cluster job fairs. Evaluates and promotes work opportunities to students and graduates. Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned by Job Placement Resource Center management and the Dean of Workforce and Economic Development.

Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree required in counseling, psychology, or related field; Master's degree preferred.

Experience Requirements: A minimum of five years of career counseling and/or job placement experience. Experience with employer recruitment processes and monitoring employment trends. Experience with customer relationship software. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively across internal and external organizational structures. Strong follow-up and follow-through skills. Outstanding communication skills that emphasize effective listening.
