Position Summary: Enhance student-athletes' connection to MSU faculty and college advising offices. Plan and coordinate academic support for assigned student-athletes participating in 3-5 Olympic Sports in order that they have an opportunity to maximize their use of University academic support resources. Provide ongoing academic counseling, Big Ten Conference and NCAA continuing eligibility education and monitoring. Oversee the SASS Tutorial Program with the responsibility of developing and implementing individualized retention plans, including but not limited to personal development that will ultimately lead to graduation from MSU.

Responsibilities include regular contact with student-athletes, coaches and university staff. The position requires a considerable amount of attention to detail particularly with regard to maintaining accurate documentation concerning steps taken to assist student-athletes with resolving academic issues, and advice given to make progress toward an undergraduate degree at MSU. Therefore, clerical management of case load written files, particular documentation of course load planning and academic support rendered by SASS, is expected. The person in this position will perform, but not be limited to the following duties: Oversee the SASS Tutorial Program by identifying, hiring, assigning and evaluating subject tutors. Developing and maintaining a collegial relationship with MSU faculty and staff, instructing student-athletes on how to use SASS and campus academic support resources; Assigning tutorial support and monitoring assigned student-athletes' overall participation in the Learning Enhancement & Academic Programs; Monitoring course performance through inspection of professor progress reports and reporting appropriate information to coaches; Providing informational orientations to prospective MSU student-athletes; Assist the Director of Student-Athlete Development, when assigned; And, performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Student-Athlete Support Services.

Faculty: Minimum Qualifications
Support Staff: Minimum Requirements
A minimum of 2 years working in a Division I Intercollegiate Athletics academic support program required. Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations required. Candidate must have proven written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of computer technology designed for word processing and database management. Must be available to work evenings and weekends when necessary.

Typing Requirements (wpm):

Desired Qualifications: A Masters in Counseling, College Student Personnel, Education, or related field. Experience successfully providing academic support to collegiate student-athletes is preferred.
