The Department of History at Claremont McKenna College invites applications for a non-tenure-track position at the rank of Instructor or Visiting Assistant Professor. The position is for the fall semester 2014, beginning September to December. Areas of specialization should include East Asian history with a focus on Korea and/or Japan. The successful candidates will teach an introductory course on the history of East Asia (Korea, Japan and China) before 1800 and a general course on modern Japanese or Korean history. The teaching load is 2 courses; class size is typically under 20 students. Applications should contain CV, cover letter, at least three letters of recommendation, writing sample, a sample syllabus, and evidence of teaching effectiveness (preferably from multiple courses).
