Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree preferred.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Journalism, Public Administration or related field required. Minimum of 5 years high-level experience with direct responsibility for organizational communications (may be in the area of marketing, public relations, etc.) required. Experience supervising and managing people required. Minimum of 5 years high-level experience in creating, executing, managing and measuring integrated communication plans including traditional and social media tools. Experience developing and managing brand strategies for a large, complex organization required. Proven media relations success with local and regional media required. National media placement a plus. Experience in managing high-profile crisis communications required.
Responsibilities: Job Summary: This person serves as the Director of Strategic Communications for the college. The person in this role is responsible for supporting the College's mission and goals through the effective management of its communication methods, distinct media, and content. This person is also responsible for overseeing the effective development, coordination, and implementation of marketing and public relations strategies to ensure proactive and favorable representation of Lansing Community College. The person in this position also functions as a member of the president's executive leadership team and participates in executive-level decision making concerning various policies and programs. Essential Duties: Strategic Communication Planning, Development and Implementation: * Develop and implement an annual strategic communications plan with creative solution-based strategies to meet the communication needs of a variety of college constituent groups. * Actively seek to understand and implement communication needs of internal and external college stakeholders. * Develop and measure the effectiveness of overall marketing, public relations and communications. * Develop, oversee and implement crisis communication plans, as needed. * Participate in, initiate and/or lead activities to increase the strength of the college community, promote enrollment and foster partnerships. * Create communications initiatives in support of campus-wide messaging strategies that support the LCC vision and brand. Collaborative Role and Responsibilities: * Maintain and preserve the integrity of the LCC brand by serving as consultant and quality control check for all college-wide communications and publications to assure branding and editorial style guidelines are followed. * Supervise all components of communications including internal and external communication, marketing and public relations. Support Marketing Functions, Enrollment Goals and Increase Awareness of College Programs (Oversee all aspects of communication including Web, publications, media, photography and video): * WEBSITE - Work with marketing director to ensure and manage college website updates to keep information current relevant and accurate while supporting the goal of constituent engagement, and employment of communication platforms consistent with the LCC vision and brand. * PUBLICATIONS - Work with marketing director to ensure the production and design of electronic and print publications, including the annual report and other event invitations and programs consistent with the LCC vision and brand. Involves collaboration with clients, design firms, vendors and others to deliver according to production schedules. * WRITING - Compose communications based upon data and information acquired via research, personal and professional knowledge, internal and external community engagement, etc. Utilize a variety of writing styles, ranging from news reporting to anecdotal observations of outcomes. Write in a simple and clear manner with a style and method that is easily scannable for content. * SOCIAL MEDIA - Leverage social media strategies to obtain optimal community impact and to engage constituent groups. * VIDEO - Support the development of TV programming, videos, and scripts for productions. Assure quality productions in line with parameters of assignments. * PHOTOGRAPHY - Work with marketing director to ensure maintenance of an appropriate photography bank, with a balance of quality images, and in accordance with the marketing needs of the college. Also, work closely with photographers to support key college events. * TECHNOLOGY - Leverage technology, utilize analytics, search engines, and other measurements to determine effectiveness and future communication strategies. * STYLE AND BRANDING - Develop, implement and communicate editorial standards and guidelines to all college divisions and groups. * ADVERTISING - Support the development of, and manage ad campaigns to promote enrollment and increase awareness of the college and its programs. * MEDIA OUTLETS - Oversee and support media relations, including writing press releases, scheduling and coordinating guidance on media interviews, and cultivating relations with local, state and national media to promote positive coverage of the college. Identify and promoting college programs/activities for internal and external audiences. Consumer Based Approach to Communication: * Serve as an end-user advocate by identifying and removing barriers to communication, and work to uncover and serve audience needs. * Develop processes that reduce information overload, and connect individuals to resources that enhance constituent relationships.
