Unit Job Summary: The University of Chicago is seeking a Marketing Communications Manager to help build brand recognition and social awareness of Hyde Park's 53rd Street retail and commercial corridor and to promote the dining, retail and entertainment venues of 53rd Street. The Marketing Communications Manager will be nimble and creative, and have the ability to forge independent relationships with local businesses and community partners. The goal of the Marketing Communications Manager is to increase traffic to retailers within the 53rd Street corridor. The Marketing Communications Manager will report to the Associate Vice President for Commercial Real Estate Operations and serve as liaison to the Director of Communications for Civic Engagement. Specifically, the Marketing Communications Manager would be responsible for: - Creating and executing social media initiatives to drive foot traffic to 53rd Street, including print, online and broadcast advertising - Building up and managing social media presence and relationships for 53rd Street through Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, as well as relevant niche platforms that will help increase the corridor's appeal as a destination for dining, shopping and entertainment. - Working with local businesses to help leverage University-driven marketing efforts and to support marketing efforts - Working with relevant community and business organizations (e.g., SECC, Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce, 53rd Street Special Service Area) to identify and implement new marketing initiatives for the corridor - Working with University Communications and developing other relationships within the University to help promote 53rd Street to faculty, students and staff - Reporting on the effectiveness of social media marketing efforts and measuring the impact of social media programs - Continuously monitor new trends in social media that may be applicable to 53rd Street - Working with University Communications and the Office of Civic Engagement and developing other relationships within the University to help promote 53rd Street to faculty, students and staff (e.g., via UChicago Local initiative)

Unit Education: This position requires a bachelor's degree.

Unit Experience: The position requires three to five years of professional experience in marketing, communications, or related fields. The preferred candidate will have the following professional experience: Demonstrated creativity, in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, Instagram, and Pinterest and how each platform can be deployed. Effective management of social media content. Execution and implementation of marketing campaigns promoting destinations and/or events. A working knowledge of the principles of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Coordination with small businesses and/or community organizations.
