The Office of Research of Florida State University seeks to fill the position of Director, Federal Relations.

Qualifications
Master's degree and six years of experience related to administrative services or a Bachelor's degree and eight years of related experience or a combination of post high school education and said experience equal to twelve years.

Ability to adhere to ethical business practices and promote ethical behavior.

Knowledge of and the ability to apply the principles and practices to strategically align tasks with people with organizational goals and objectives.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to represent the University in appointed area as required.

Ability to strategically plan and serve as a catalyst for organizational change, cultivate a shared vision with others, and motivate others to transfer vision into action.

Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.

Knowledge of the concept, principles, and practices of management.

Preferred
Significant experience with federal R&D funding agencies for universities.

This position reports to the Vice President for Research and provides leadership for the university's relationships with federal officials (government & agency) and staff. The incumbent will work directly with Florida's federal congressional delegation and their staff, and federal agency officials to engage and advocate for priorities that impact the university's research enterprise.

Incumbent may be home based in either Tallahassee, Florida or Washington DC as deemed appropriate by the Vice President for Research.

Florida State University is classified as a very high research activity, doctorate-granting institution with a student population approaching 42,000 and research expenditures over $250 million. In recent years, the University has made considerable investments in research infrastructure in the sciences and engineering disciplines. The University is located in Tallahassee, the capital of Florida, where residents have access to a broad range of cultural amenities afforded by the presence of three institutions of higher learning. The region boasts an abundance of springs, lakes and rivers as well as pristine beaches on the Gulf of Mexico.

Contracts and Grants
The position is funded by contract and grant monies.

Responsibilities
Provides liaison between FSU and federal agency officials/administrators to promote FSU's federal agenda. Serves as a key facilitator to identify and connect FSU research capabilities, talent and related expertise with federal funding agencies.

Works closely with the FL congressional delegation and their staff to advocate for university priorities on R&D issues and programs.

Provides liaison between FSU and Washington representatives such as SUS DC lobbyist, FSU DC lobbyist, etc.

Provides advice and counsel to the Vice President for Research (VPR) on issues deemed appropriate by the VPR and other duties as assigned.

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
