Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree (by the end of May 2014). Must be able to work both independently and as part of team. Detailed-oriented, and possess strong interpersonal skills, customer service, and communication skills to work with students. Superior organizational skills, accuracy/attention to detail, and experience with databases required due to the fast-paced nature of the work environment. and the heavy volume of database (ZebraNet) work involved.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience advising or counseling in a higher education environment. Demonstrated use of career services' database. Presentation experience.

Brief Description of Duties: The Walk-In Advisor will conduct intake assessment of student career development needs. S/he makes decisions and provides advisement about relevant resources, programs, and services of the Career Center. S/he will collaborate with the Senior Intake Advisor to train undergraduate career interns on career education trends and resources. The selected candidate:
  • Conducts initial intake assessment of individual student needs and directs students to relevant career education and job placement resources and services. Must remain fully acquainted with current career education and job market trends. Remains alert for clients or phone calls that may require special handling. Assists in training and ongoing professional development of undergraduate student peer educators.
  • Develops expertise in the ZebraNet employer database, reviews and approves job & internship postings. Handles routine student questions about ZebraNet problems, resume reviews, and overall search support. Will be trained to create basic employer reports and work with employer relations team to identify new employer prospects using Internet, association publications and corporate directories, and adds to our employer prospect database.
  • Presents Overview of Career Services in group settings, during student organization meetings and to prospective students and parents who visit the Center.
  • Participates in Career Center events, or University activities that require a Career Center presence, which may take place during the day, evenings, or weekends, for example, “Admitted Student Day,” “Parent Orientation,” “Welcome Weekend,” “Table Times,” student leadership and career conferences.

Special Notes: This is a full time appointment, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Night and weekend work is required. Travel to professional meetings and conferences will be required for this position.
