Admissions Representative (#499622) - Academic Services; Full-time; Salary: $31,000; Closing: April 29, 2014. JOB SUMMARY: Represent Lamar University through the oversight and coordination of selected elements of the Lamar University recruitment process. Develop and conduct daily campus tours for prospective students and their families. Conduct and participate in telephone calling and emailing to attract and assist potential students. Communicate and explain the admission process, academic offerings, and student support services of Lamar University to multiple constituencies including but not limited to: prospective students, high schools, community colleges, and civic organizations. Project a positive image of the university through formal program presentations, written correspondence and individual contact with students, parents and educators. Recruit and secure students who meet the admission requirements of the university. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Develop, plan and organize special recruiting events and programs •Develop, prepare and present informational programs to groups of students, educators, community members and parents of prospective students •Develop, organize and promote the campus tour program •Oversee and conduct campus tours •Represent Lamar University at college day/night programs •Travel to visit secondary schools and community colleges to confer with administrators, counselors, teachers, and students •Identify and personally contact potential Lamar students •Contact and assist prospective students •Organize and assist in distribution of recruitment literature •Assist in the development of recruitment literature and correspondence •Contact and work with student organizations to coordinate recruiting efforts •Coordinate and assist alumni recruitment volunteers •Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with Lamar University departmental recruiters •Perform related duties as necessary REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: SUPERVISION GIVEN: will supervise from 8 to 10 student workers when in the office. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: general supervision given. Proceeds alone following standard practices and procedures. Questionable cases may be referred when they arise outside of standard practice. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must speak and communicate clearly in English. Must be comfortable and effective in speaking to groups and individuals. Must have the ability to compose written correspondence that is structurally and grammatically correct. Must have the ability to learn and articulate the goals of the university related to university admissions. Must have a valid Texas drivers license, be insurable and have dependable transportation. Ability and willingness and work independently. Ability and willingness to participate in limited travel outside of the Beaumont area. Willingness to work evenings and some weekends. Must have a broad understanding of college and university academic and student programs. EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. EXPERIENCE: Preference will be given to candidates having direct experiences at Lamar University as a successful and active student. Related experience in university recruitment activities desirable. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines. The ability to drive a vehicle and lift boxes of recruitment materials (approximately 20 pounds). This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
