Assistant Director, Institutional Research

To work with the Associate VP on the coordination, analysis, development, and systematic collection of institutional data for planning, decision support, assessment, and reporting. Maintain knowledge of current issues within the College and to provide information or conducts studies that could shed light on complex questions. Assists in the development and analysis of institutional key performance indicators and outcomes.

Primary Duties, Responsibilites, and Tasks

Respond to internal and external requests for institutional data, including the completion of surveys and required reports for federal government agencies and non-governmental organizations including service on the College’s Strategic Reporting Team.

Maintain archival institutional research data in easily accessible formats. This includes strategic planning information, assessment data, and other data and studies conducted by others

Maintains a calendar schedule of required reports, facilitates ongoing processes for institutional planning and evaluation, works with end users on data requirements and reporting needs. Required reports include grade point distributions by semester, course evaluations by semester, IPEDS reporting, updating Fall College Factbook, etc.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Education (including hardware, software, and equipment)

Bachelor’s degree in a research environment/discipline. Demonstrated knowledge of statistical analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, including the principles, practices, theories, models, and techniques involved in the research, collection, analysis, and interpretation of statistical data. Strong information technology skills. Familiarity in working with and handling large datasets including fluency in MS Excel. Ability to summarize and present data effectively including the use of tables and charts with accuracy and efficiency.

Experience with Ellucian Banner or equivalent.

Preferred/Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Education (including hardware, software, and equipment)

Master’s level work in a research oriented discipline. Multi- year experience with the Elluician Banner ERP and/or Cognos in a data warehouse environment is a plus. Familiarity with SPSS or other statistical analysis packages is a plus.

3 or more years experience in higher education, preferably in institutional research or similar. Experience in data analysis, report writing, and use of information systems such as Banner, Access, SPSS, or equivalent. Familiarity with online survey software, IPEDS, course evaluations a plus.

Required Prior Work Experience

Three years of experience working in a research environment handling large sets of data
