Amherst College, one of the nation’s premier liberal arts colleges, seeks a Dean of Students to partner with the Chief Student Affairs Officer to lead the College’s efforts to provide an exemplary student experience. Reporting to the Chief Student Affairs Officer, the next Dean of Students will be a campus leader, a builder of community, and a talented administrator of broad reach and high visibility. S/he will play a significant role in the experience of all Amherst students and will enhance the quality of life in the Amherst community at a time of crucial cultural change and transition.

The position demands creative leadership, a results orientation, and a thorough understanding of the best practices in student affairs. Success will require understanding and optimizing the interdependence of the curricular and co-curricular aspects of the students’ education.

To identify a new Dean of Students, President Biddy Martin has named an eight member search committee that includes faculty, students, and administrators. The committee will be co-chaired by Nicola Courtright, Professor of Art and the History of Art, and Suzanne Coffey, the Chief Student Affairs Officer. The committee will be assisted by the executive search firm Isaacson, Miller.
