ANTICIPATED SALARY RANGE: $31,182 - $44,438, Band 05, SC State Classification System HOURS: Mon-Thur 8:00am - 6:00pm; Fri 8:00 am - 1:00pm CAMPUS: Barton GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES In this challenging role, you will support the Upward Bound department at Greenville Technical College. Duties may include any or all of the following: Under moderate supervision of the Upward Bound Project Director, the Academic Specialist has primary responsibility for designing, scheduling, and coordinating the processes relating to the Academic, Summer, and Bridge components. The Academic Specialist/Counselor assesses the needs of the program participants and assists in planning and implementing of supportive services to address identified needs. This work includes in-school visitation, individual meetings with students and parents, working with high school administrators and counseling staff to implement recruitment plans and completing necessary reports. The Academic Specialist is afforded a high degree of independence and discretion in developing and providing and/or providing support services and cultural enrichment activities for the Upward Bound participants and communicating with administrators at target high schools. Weekend work is required during the Academic Component and overtime hours are often required during peak work periods. On occasion, overnight travel is required to participate in professional development workshops and participants activities. Personal vehicle will be used for traveling to programs and schools in the service areas; mileage will be reimbursed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree; or bachelor's degree + 2 yrs experience in student services programs. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience working with high school students and a current SC Driver's license.
