Job Description Summary

Coordinates the development and management of the Youth Safety and Leadership Camp, a program designed to orient young at risk youths to the duties and responsibilities that they have to their families, communities and themselves while enhancing their character and image.

Job Responsibilities

Plans, directs, and supervises all camp activity programs and staff.

Aids in identification and application for internal and external funding sources to provide sustainability for the Leadership Camp.

Coordinates summer camp activities with existing youth-serving programs of Cuyahoga Community College to create a feeder program leading to those programs

Prepares and conducts pre-camp and in-service training

Orders or oversees the ordering of food, supplies, and equipment, and arranges for proper distribution

Develops routines, schedules, and procedures for camp operation

Assigns camp staff activities and other responsibilities

Assigns camp staff and campers to cabins or groups

Prepares an evaluation and summary of current season including inventories, staff evaluations, camper reports, and recommendations for the following season

Defines and monitors crisis management plan, including emergency procedures

Organizes and / or approves trips out of camp for program, supplies, and crisis management

Monitors safety and all procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of all campers and staff. Monitors and administers prescribed medication for youth participants

Helps provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well- being among the camp family

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Associate’s degree

Minimum of three years of experience in non-profit program development, implementation and management

At least one season of camp administrative experience (i.e., unit leader, head counselor)

Current CPR and first aid certifications

Knowledge of and experience in issues related to domestic violence, youth and/or the law

Strong interpersonal, supervision, administration and management skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to supervise staff and campers

Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail

Ability to plan, originate, organize, and carry out daily and special programs

Ability to work with diverse groups of people

Sound judgment, professionalism and a positive attitude

Physical ability to move about the camp property in various environmental conditions

Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education, camp administration, or other relevant field

Work Schedule

Hours may vary based on departmental needs, weekends are involved. Total work hours cannot exceed 1040 per fiscal year.
