Achieving the Dream (ATD), a 501(c)(3) organization located in the DC suburb of Silver Spring, Maryland, invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for Community College Relations and Applied Research. ATD leads a national reform network dedicated to community college student success and completion, especially for low-income students and students of color. The network includes nearly 200 colleges, 15 state policy teams, more than 20 investors, and more than 100 coaches and advisors working throughout 32 states and the District of Columbia. Achieving the Dream is based on the premise that to improve student success on a substantial scale, colleges must fundamentally change the way they operate. Using a Student-Centered Model of Institutional Improvement, the organization helps colleges create a culture of evidence in which data and inquiry drive broad-based institutional efforts to help close achievement gaps and improve student outcomes. For more information on Achieving the Dream, please explore ATD seeks an individual with knowledge of student success and considerable experience in developmental education, teaching and learning, and reform leadership. Working collaboratively with ATD’s senior leadership, program and policy professional staff, Leadership and Data Coaches, and national partners, the Vice President will lead efforts to inspire and mobilize administrative and faculty leaders of Achieving the Dream Institutions to adopt innovative, evidence-based practices to accelerate student outcomes. The Vice President will serve as a member of the senior management team reporting directly to the President and CEO and will be charged with providing strategic advice on all aspects of Achieving the Dream’s operations and services. The New Vice President will be responsible for leading ATD’s developmental education efforts, overseeing the organization’s grants program, building partnerships with experts in teaching and learning to promote best practices, and developing and directing ATD’s strategic plan for knowledge development. This position will also work to form partnerships and collaborate with the presidents and CEOs of the Achieving the Dream institutions to refine and enhance student success programs and ensure the availability of lessons learned from these programs to all institutions in the Achieving the Dream National Reform Network. The new Vice President will play a key role as spokesperson for the organization on community college leadership, developmental education, and institutional change while working to strengthen network colleges’ research capabilities to drive institutional change. Qualifications: The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate experience in and knowledge of leading change in community colleges through collaboration and innovation, an understanding of developmental education, teaching and learning, and a proven record of achievement in designing, implementing, and sustaining evidence-based educational programs. The new Vice President will be an entrepreneurial individual with experience working with grants and securing additional revenue sources to support organizational programs. Well-developed interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required for this position to effectively interact and collaborate with community college leaders, governmental organizations, and other higher education leaders.
