Position Summary: The Associate University Counsel will engage in a challenging, wide-ranging, transactional and regulatory practice that focuses on sophisticated research, technology transfer, and intellectual property issues, including research and licensing agreements, public-private partnerships, start-ups, conflict of interest analysis, trademark and copyright counseling, and coordination with outside intellectual property counsel. The Associate University Counsel's responsibilities will also include a varied portfolio that includes general business and IT matters. The Associate University Counsel will work closely with all members of the Office of University Counsel and will report to the Vice Chancellor and General Counsel.

Education Requirements: A law degree from an accredited school. Must be a member of the North Carolina bar or become a member within one year of employment.

Qualification and Experience: A minimum of five years of legal experience. Broad transactions experience, including first-chair responsibility for complex IP transactions. Experience providing clients with practical, common sense advice on the implementation of federal and or state regulations.FCPA experience a plus. Experience advising research universities or research-intensive organizations a plus. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; initiative, intellectual curiosity, tenacity; creativity, strategic common sense, good judgment, level-headedness, energized by challenges. Excellent drafting, negotiation, and client counseling skills; the ability to lead others to take appropriate action. Effective team member and colleague; aptitude for building positive working relationships at all levels. Ability to juggle shifting priorities and multiple projects; excellent follow-through.
