Duties and Responsibilities: • Makes recommendations to the Chancellor regarding operational policies; resource allocation; campus, school, and department programs and projects; and actions necessary for the successful fulfillment of the Rutgers-New Brunswick missions. • Establishes and implements short and long-range financial goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures in conjunction with University goals and objectives. • With direction from the University’s Senior Vice President for Finance, manages an ongoing system of process and organizational improvements within the accounting and finance functions of the campus. Evaluates the financial programs and supporting information systems of RNB, making specific recommendations for improvements to the Senior Vice President for Finance. • Manages the annual budget and management and financial reporting processes of RNB in concert with the University’s Office of Budget & Resource Studies; works with University officials on financial and administrative management issues within RNB. Oversees and monitors the annual budgets of RNB and of its Schools and Centers/Institutes. • Collaborates with the Senior Vice President for Finance and other Rutgers officials to encourage cost reductions through activities such as the use of shared services, allocation of resources, and the encouragement of innovative and creative thinking throughout Rutgers. Experience with responsibility center management in a complex academic environment. Knowledge of and demonstrated success in implementing finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles. An understanding of and successful experience with academic and/or research funding at local and national levels. Outstanding human relations and leadership skills and the ability to function in a team environment. Experience in using budgets as a tool for implementing policy. Experience examining programmatic budgets in detail in order to identify cost saving opportunities. An ability to use logic to analyze or identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts associated with information or data.
