Director for College Relations

Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement and College Relations, the Director of College Relations serves as the College’s primary public relations/marketing staff member. Supervising Website Communications and College Relations, the Director of College Relations is responsible for developing and executing a public relations and marketing strategy that raises institutional visibility; supports the successful recruitment of students for the Undergraduate College and School of Professional and Graduate Studies, and supports the ongoing engagement of Alumnae/i and friends of the College. Responsibilities: • Work with the Office of Admission, and various College departments, to develop and implement effective recruitment marketing campaigns for the College. In collaboration with outside contractors, develop promotional copy and design for online, direct mail, newspaper, magazine and radio markets; coordinate production and delivery deadlines. • Direct and oversee the public relations and marketing effect of the College Website, and the College’s social media strategy. • Research, write and edit articles and other copy for the College’s programs, annual report, alumni newsletter, and other publications. Collaborate with College administrators, faculty, staff, students and alumnae/i to research writing projects. Coordinate with graphic designers / printers to meet deadlines. Execute distribution of materials and monitor mailings. • Develop and maintain a media relations strategy for the College locally and regionally. Prepare and distribute press releases to key outlets to obtain media coverage for various College events and achievements. Establish relationships with local and regional media to facilitate coverage. • Assist with all phases of planning and preparation for various College events; attend events and supervise all aspects of each event. Assist in developing invitations and promotional materials for various internal and public events; coordinate with graphic designers / printers, execute distribution of materials and monitor external mailings. Collaborate with College administrators, faculty, staff, students and external groups as needed to coordinate various aspects of events. • As directed by the Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement, serve as the College’s spokesperson in response to media inquiries. • Oversee general departmental administrative duties. Qualifications Required: Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education; Master’s degree preferred. Demonstrated background in journalism, public relations, marketing or a related field required; proven experience in progressively responsible roles preferred. Experience must demonstrate initiative and ability to work collaboratively and effectively across organizational lines. Candidate must possess excellent writing and editing skills with attention to detail and accuracy, and with a demonstrated ability to ensure brand positioning is integrated into all communications for target audiences. Experience with website communications and social media desirable. Must be a proactive professional who is able to work independently and as a member of a team; problem solve and manage multiple deadline driven assignments with limited oversight. The ability to make timely decisions using solid judgment and knowledge of the organization’s goals, and maintain confidentiality of information is essential.
