Position Information:
Under the direction of the Student Academic Affairs office and under general department supervision, the position provides fundamental academic advising to undergraduate majors in Psychology, Neuroscience, and Psychology/Law and Society. Under closer supervision, uses principles of developmental academic advising and knowledge of teaching and learning theory to promote academic, career and life goals in an effort to support student retention, timeliness to degree, academic success, as well as intellectual and personal development.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and academic advising or related experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duitie assigned to the position.

Experience working with students in a university setting
Articulation skills to listen and advise/counsel diverse personalities using sound and mature judgment.

Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction in a busy environment with multiple interruptions without losing composure; sensitive to students' needs and concerns

Good interpersonal skills to communicate with and listen actively to Deans, faculty, staff, students, and the public. Ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds using diplomacy and tact. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information being processed or viewed.

Excellent writing skills necessary for drafting official department letters, reports, etc. and mathematical skills sufficient to calculate ratios and percentages (e.g., GPAs).

Ability to identify problems and make recommendations regarding working policies and procedures and to organize and prioritize to meet changing and fixed deadlines

Advanced computer knowledge with the ability to understand and learn new applications

Demonstrated knowledge of student records systems

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and academic advising experience

Thorough knowledge of University policies and procedures, department policies, and Academic Senate policies as related to student academic affairs, admissions, and course structuring.

Ability to extract, compile, analyze, and present pertinent data effectively.

Demonstrated experience with UCR's online Student Information System (SIS+)
