GENERAL DUTIES

Performs highly-skilled laboratory functions and other technical duties in support of coursework. 

- Sets up, maintains, and organizes student laboratories

- Assists students with setting up experiments and other learning exercises, and with the use of  equipment and materials

- Maintains appropriate safety and hygiene standards

- Maintains required documentation related to laboratory activities

- Manages equipment and materials inventories.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York is accepting applications for a tenure-track College Laboratory Technician (CLT) position in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Set up, maintain, and organize the department's manufacturing and mechatronics laboratories.
- Assist students with setting up experiments in manufacturing and mechatronics.
- Maintain and order equipment and materials for all laboratories.
- Contact vendors for repair work of equipment and follow-up on parts orders.

The CLT will provide support to the teaching faculty, senior CLTs, and the department's chairperson. The CLT is expected to conduct himself/herself as a member of a team; exert cooperative effort; and exhibit a pleasant and helpful attitude.

Located in downtown Brooklyn, New York City College of Technology is a comprehensive college offering both Associate and Baccalaureate degrees. The School of Technology and Design includes both engineering technology and integrated media programs, providing a rich environment for collaboration among departments. The Mechanical Engineering Technology department has a full time faculty of 8, with 23 part time faculty members and 2 CLTs. It offers the Associate in Applied Science degrees (AAS) in Mechanical Engineering Technology and Industrial Design Technology and a baccalaureate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience.  Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications include:
- Expertise on both manual and CNC machines
- Knowledge of robotics and mechatronics
- Ability to use CAD/CAM to program CNC machines

COMPENSATION

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
