Performs teaching, research, program administration and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise.  Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments, including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

The City University of New York School of Public Health (CUNY SPH) invites applications for a Lecturer to teach courses and oversee distance education and instructional technology (IT).  The CUNY SPH is a consortial school, accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health.  It includes the public health programs at Brooklyn, Hunter (East Harlem Campus), and Lehman Colleges and the Graduate School and University Center.  We offer a range of innovative bachelor's, masters, and doctoral degree programs, with a focus on urban health.

We seek candidates with expertise in developing and teaching on-line courses, social media, online communications, and instructional technology training.  Candidates who are eager to play a leadership role in developing and managing distance education programs for both the school's academic and workforce development programs are encouraged to apply.  This 9-month, tax levy-funded appointment (with the possibility of an additional one to three month (summer) appointment for research and/or administrative responsibilities) will be made at the rank of Lecturer.  This faculty member may also be considered for appointment to the Doctoral Faculty, pending review and approval by the CUNY Graduate Center.

Responsibilities include:
- Designing and teaching undergraduate and graduate on-line courses.
- Participating in departmental and college activities including committees, course and program assessment, and curriculum development.
- Providing academic support and advisement for students during the semester and as part of the registration process.
- Collaborating with faculty in designing, developing, and evaluating distance learning programs, curricula, courses, and materials.
- Managing the SPH's distance learning and related infrastructure needs.
- Collaborating with relevant SPH and external stakeholders to assess and address public health workforce and community needs and developing training solutions.
- Supervising distance learning staff.


Bachelor's degree in degree in computer science, information technology, education, or a related field in public health, social or natural sciences.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

It is also desirable that candidates have:
- Active progress toward a Doctorate or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience in successfully executing on-line educational programs in public health for undergraduate, graduate, and professional audiences
- Proficiency in developing and evaluating on-line curricula
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of distance learning technology and their application in educational environments
- Expertise in managing technology projects
- A record of productive scholarship in educational assessment, curriculum evaluation, and other teaching related experience
