New York City College of Technology, a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn enrolling nearly 17,000 students in associate and baccalaureate degree programs, is searching for candidates to fill a tenure track line in physics. The position requires a commitment to teaching, research, and other scholarly pursuits, service to the college, and student advisement. Courses to be taught include algebra/trigonometry-based and calculus-based physics, astronomy, computational physics, and different courses of modern physics as well as physical sciences. Work with undergraduates in physics research is strongly encouraged.

Performs teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.


Ph.D. in physics is required. Teaching experience is required, preferably with multicultural students in an urban environment. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated proficiency in using computers in the laboratory and in the classroom. Current research in the fields of condensed matter or high energy theoretical physics focused on computational physics is preferred. Experience in grant writing is an asset. Candidates should have good communications skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.

Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
