GENERAL DUTIES

The Associate Administrator manages one or more College administrative functions.  He/she develops, implements, and assesses programs and services to produce high-quality results and meet strategic goals.  He/she also coordinates activities among different units, and with areas outside the College, and may oversee staff, budget, operations, and facilities.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Executive Director for Strategic Communications Relations will report to the Assistant Vice President for Communications and Public Relations and will be responsible for the following:
- Developing and executing communication strategies that provide centralized messaging for Medgar Evers College to external audiences.
- Providing support to departments and maintaining visibility on activities, decisions, and issues that need to be shared internally and/or externally.
- Developing, writing, and producing any documents necessary to sharing information externally or internally. This covers press releases, background papers, fact sheets, question-and-answer documents, high-level speeches, etc.
- Giving briefings to stakeholders in communications office as media requests are received.
- Providing accurate, coordinated, and timely information to the media and the public during a crisis situation.
- Planning programs that promote good will and fostering relationship with community leaders.
- Coordinating closely with the Community Relations office to establish new initiatives.
- Developing communication strategies to engage the community in Medgar Evers activities and engaging Medgar Evers College in the community's activities.
- Organizing media training for senior level staff; scheduling editorial boards; and serving as a spokesperson at public forums.
- Ensuring that Medgar Evers College has a robust social media presence, including accounts with Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, etc.
- Working closely with all departments to disseminate information to the public via these means.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.  Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced degree preferred; (10) ten years of extensive experience, including four years in developing and managing integrated communications activities as well as supervision of staff and budget; experience with the technical fields of web design, print design, writing and editing, marketing, brand management, and public relations; experience working with local and national media outlets; and experience in higher education communications and marketing.

The candidate must also demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to inspire trust and respect among colleagues and all internal and external partners with a high degree of professionalism. Ability to manage numerous tasks and work as part of a team.

COMPENSATION

Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
