Administers career development programs and services in a College or Unit.

- Assists in developing and implementing career planning programs and services.

- Takes a lead role in a portfolio of ongoing programs, such as orientation or workshop programs

- May supervise a unit or program, hiring, training, and managing staff

- Consults with faculty, staff, administrators, and employers regarding students career development needs

- Assists in collection, tabulation and analysis of outcomes data for students and other stakeholders, as well as research of employment and market trends

- Assists in policy development and strategic planning/special projects.

- Serves as a liaison to student groups, clubs, and athletic organizations.

- Represents career office on college committees, conferences, and to the College community at large

- Conducts outreach programming, orienting employers and other constituents to services

- Performs related duties as assigned.

Higher Education Assistant




Under the supervision of the Director of the Career Development Center, the E-Career Counselor will provide career counseling, career planning, intake and assessment, and job readiness services to youth and adults across LaGuardia Community College's Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) programs.

The E-Career Counselor:
- Interacts with program staff of ACE's diverse programs to support the achievement of students' career, educational, and vocational goals.
- Collaborates with CDC career advisors and resource room staff in the delivery of services.
- Utilizes web-based career assessments, labor market information, and other occupational research to inform practice and contribute to the development and support of students' career decisions.
- Provides individual and group career and job readiness counseling and workshops.
- Meets with clients to develop individual career plans and keeps appropriate confidential records.
- Utilizes divisional reporting and tracking systems and provides timely and accurate entry of students' data in ACE and funder databases.
- Makes appropriate student referrals to internal and external educational and vocational training programs.
- Participates in continued professional development activities that support department and personal growth and development.
- Cultivates and maintains successful professional relationships with ACE department counseling, employment, and administrative staff.

Bachelor's Degree and four years related experience required.


Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Education, or related field strongly preferred. 3-4 years of relevant experience in career counseling, workforce development, or direct services case management preferred. Comfortable and capable of working in a fast-paced, target-driven direct service environment. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with a strong customer-service focus. Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of constituents and adjust to multiple demands and shifting priorities.


Salary commensurate with education and experience.
