Job Summary

Maintaining the mouse breeding colony: setting up and monitoring breeding pairs, keeping breeding

records checking all cages regularly for sick or dead animals. Monitoring of experimental mice: vaginal cytology to monitor estrous cycle stage; monitoring and recording of litter and pup production for mice in breeding studies.

 

Salary: Hourly $14.51 - $15.34

Work Schedule: 8-5, M-F

Career Position.

Job Description
Job Essential Function 1
Percent of Time: 70%
 
Maintaining the mouse breeding colony:
 
Monitoring breeding pairs; keeping breeding records; Checking all cages regularly for sick or dead animals.
 
Job Essential Function 2
Percent of Time: 20%
 
Monitoring of experimental mice:
 
Vaginal cytology to monitor estrous cycle stage; monitoring and recording of litter and pup production for mice in breeding studies.
 
Job Essential Function 3
Percent of Time: 10%
 
Monitoring undergraduate students who assist with the above activities.
 
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
 
Required:
Experience in handling,breeding, toe clipping and experimental procedures in mice.
Experience in basic molecular biology and biochemistry laboratory procedures.
College level knowledge of molecular biology and biochemistry.
 
Desired:
BS degree in Biological Sciences or Biochemistry
